Wenatchee, Washington Information

The city is located in central Washington. It is the largest city of Chelan County with 32,520 residents. It is also the second most populated city in central Washington. The city is in a fertile valley where the Columbia River and Wenatchee River meet. Named after an Indian tribe, the name translates to “rivers which comes from canyons”.

It is also known as the “Apple Capital of the World” because of the number of orchards that grow in the valley. There are more than 170,000 acres of orchards and is one of the world’s largest producers of apples. Since 1920 the area continues to hold the annual Washington State’s Apple Blossom Festival. Not only is the valley great for cultivating apples but it is well-known for plentiful vineyards and other tree fruits including pears and cherry blossoms.

The Economy

Although fruit growing dominates Wenatchee’s economy other industries including manufacturing, farming, lumber, mineral development and transportation services have thrived as well.


The climate is semi-arid which includes hot, dry summers and cold winters. Despite the 35 inches annual snow fall, Wenatchee still averages 300 days of sunshine a year.


Skiing at Mission Ridge, shopping at Pybus Market or boating on the river are entertaining things to do. The town also offers many wine tasting events, fruit stands, orchards, and breweries to visit. If you like the outdoors you might try hunting, fishing, water sports, hiking, swimming, snowboarding or even play a round of golf. Wenatchee has it all. When your hunger pains kick in there are many choices of eateries to enjoy.
